Walcott-Nolan finishes fourth while Bakare and Matthew impress too
Luton athlete Revee Walcott-Nolan finished an impressive fourth in the 800m at the British Championships and Olympic Trials held in Birmingham on Sunday.
The 21-year-old was second quickest in her heat, clocking 2.03.32mins to finish behind Lynsey Sharp and quality for Sunday’s final.
Despite being the youngest athlete in the final, she managed an excellent time of 2.03.81mins to finish in fourth place behind Shelayna Oskan-Clarke (2:01.80),Sharp (2:02.14) and Alison Leonard (2:02.45).
Luton’s Sabrina Bakare ran her second fastest 400m time of the year at the same event.
The 20-year-old was in the heats and timed 54.98secs to finish in sixth place, although didn’t make the final.
It was still an impressive performance from the youngster though, who is coached by Jane Dixon, as she continues to make her comeback from a stress fracture in her tibia which kept her out for most of last season.
Afterwards, Bakare tweeted: “I was put in fire and came out unscathed! First British Senior Champs! Another sub 55 this year.”
Meanwhile, fellow Luton athlete Gerry Matthew ran a PB at the Bauhaus Juniorengala event in Mannheim, Germany on Sunday.
The 19-year-old blasted to a superb time of 21.11secs, beating his previous best of 21.25secs.
Matthew has been in excellent form of late, picking up two bronze medals at the England U20 & U23 Championships held at Bedford International Stadium the previous weekend.
