Houghton Regis firm backs two MND campaigns
Powered access hire specialist Star Platforms is supporting two amazing people raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the disease.

The company is a shirt sponsor for businessman John English, who is taking on a remarkable challenge to run nearly 500 miles in just 31 days for the MND Association, and has already raised over £8,000.
John visited the Star Platform offices in Houghton Regis during his ‘31 Days. 496 Miles. Thousands of Minutes. One Cause’ run – equivalent to covering a distance of just under 19 marathons in a calendar month.
His electrical fit-out business, in Hemel Hempstead, is a long-standing customer of Star Platforms, where colleagues warmly greeted him and cheered him on his way as he set off again on his multi-marathon effort.
Star Platforms also continues its commitment to an annual MND Golf Day, organised by Mick Grimsdale and his family. This year's event, held on October 16 at Stocks Golf Club, near Tring, was the biggest yet, bringing together 72 golfers and raising £7,487 for the MND Association.
Mick is living with motor neurone disease yet works tirelessly to raise awareness of the condition and raise funds for others affected by it, supported by his daughter, Lauren Petchell.
The annual golf day has grown into an important community fundraiser, bringing together businesses, friends and supporters in the fight against MND.
Lauren Petchell said: "The support of Star Platforms, friends and the wider community means the world to our family. Every bit of support makes a difference, helping to raise vital funds for the MND Association and the incredible work they do to support families like ours."
Star Platforms managing director Richard Miller said: "We’re proud to support people and events having such a positive impact on our local communities. Mick’s courage and positivity in helping others is inspiring. The support of Lauren and his family is making a huge difference in terms of fundraising and educating others about a disease that affects thousands of families across the UK.
“John's fundraising challenge is an incredible achievement and shows the determination and generosity of people who are committed to helping others. He embarked on his run after watching a TV programme about rugby league star Rob Burrows who had MND. He saw the need and literally stepped up to meet it.”
