Luton & NGYT’s award-winning young voices return with two powerful dance and theatre productions

“The shows have been created by the most generous group of young people aged 14-25”

On Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July, actors and dancers at Next Generation Youth Theatre CIO in partnership with the Culture Trust Luton bring a theatrical showcase of talent in two returning and reworked dance & theatre performances at the Hat Factory Arts Centre. Audiences can expect two shows in one evening in a thought-provoking Double Bill by their two flagship Dance & Theatre Companies for remarkable 14-25 year old performers: ‘Somewhere In-Between’ performed by NGYT’s Meraki Dance Company and ‘Stardust: Etched in the Celestial Sky’, performed by NGYT Theatre Company.

Somewhere In-Between explores how ‘we must lift, despite the load & love despite the loss…Somewhere in-between we must unapologetically exist; Shake off the guilt & anger & keep dancing…’

Stardust: Etched in the Celestial Sky is an ‘Autobiographical, theatrical gameshow delving deep into the lived experiences of our young company. Stand side by side in this poetic, ensemble led, highly physical creation where tomorrow belongs to us all.’

This is Theatre and Dance unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, not just in Luton but the UK, bringing captivating writing and stunning choreography to life. NGYT's work distinctively offers audiences heart warming, hilarious and transformational insights into the lives of the next generation. They paint the truths and hardships of being yourself in today's society, giving audiences an emotional, heart warming insight into the thoughts and feelings of young people.

David and Laura, Co-Artistic Directors of NGYT say: “The shows have been created by the most generous group of young people aged 14-25. The sharing of personal stories and the respect and trust the companies have for one another is just one of the reasons to come along.”

David adds: “I’m hugely excited for the theatre company’s show this year. This piece feels like a confrontational, oppositional protest through performance. It feels like a really timely and necessary piece of theatre that platforms people and voices in society that are experiencing even more exclusion and hate than ever before. Stardust is an eye-opening show that everyone needs to see.”

Lauren Segal, NGYT Meraki Dance Company’s Assistant Director says: “It’s inspiring that both companies want to create performance art that gives something to the audience. There’s not only a focus on what they want to say but always why. Why are we creating dance theatre shows about the space between the glimmers and the darkness? Because we want the audience to see that two things can exist at once, that it’s ok to feel the joy & to give them something personal they can take away that may change their mindset. Even if it's for 45 minutes”

Audience members of NGYT’s past work said: “This show truly changed me.”

"The performances linger in your thoughts and reflections long after the lights go out in the theatre.”
