Scouts from 3rd Dunstable power up recycling with VARTA battery campaign
‘Our young people really got stuck into the competition and we’re really proud ‘
Scouts from 3rd Dunstable Scout Group have recycled over 5000 batteries as part of a national initiative, helping to protect the environment and build more sustainable habits for the future.

The activity is part of a partnership between VARTA Consumer Batteries UK and The Scouts, which aims to inspire young people to take positive action for the planet.
As part of the campaign, young people from 3rd Dunstable Scout Group have been collecting used batteries and raising awareness of the importance of recycling batteries safely.
The initiative also includes a range of hands-on activities designed to build understanding of sustainability, including the ‘Ready, Steady, Recycle’ challenge, which encourages better recycling habits at home.
James Palmer Scout Volunteer said "Our young people really got stuck into the competition and we’re really proud they managed to collect a whopping 5324 batteries. Cubs collected 54% of the batteries. I even came across someone outside Scouts who used to throw batteries into the normal waste bin & they now recycle them correctly at collection points".
Reggie Turner aged 10 said "Recycling batteries matters to me because as an eco rep for my school, I want to make sure harmful waste doesn’t hurt animals or our planet."
Simon Laidler from VARTA Consumer Batteries UK said: “We are thrilled to partner with The Scouts, aligning our commitment to sustainability with their focus on environmental responsibility. Our battery recycling campaign shows the real impact young people can have when they are empowered to take action. Together, we’re helping to turn awareness into meaningful change and inspire lifelong responsibility for the planet.”
