Raising money for charity in Deb’s memory

The 54-year-old lost her battle with cancer in September 2014 and her friends and family organised the match to raise money for the charity.

Sunday’s match between Sporting Lewsey Park of Luton and Club Swan of Dunstable follows the success of last year’s charity match, when £750 was raised.

Corin Nagle played in the charity game at Lewsey Park, he said: “It was a real celebration of Deb’s life, she was a lovely woman and was adored by so many people.

“Everyone had a great afternoon and it was very touching to see so many people get together for her and to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“The first half was quite a close game but the second half had more of a charity match feel to it.

“A lot of her friends took part in the match and her husband and two of her sons played.

“I’m not sure on the total amount raised but I think it will be in the hundreds, hopefully close to a thousand.

“Although Deb died of cancer her family chose this charity because of her love and affection towards children and they felt it was a choice she would have loved.

“We have decided to play this charity match every year on the closest Sunday to Christmas in her memory.

“Deb was loved by so many people and this is a way for her friends and family to remember her and raise money for a charity that was so close to her heart.”

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity raises money to enable the hospital to provide world class care and to pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses.
