Powerful BBC documentary depicts autism

A SEVERELY autistic Luton teenager features in a three-part BBC4 documentary starting on Monday (August 13).

Tony Hines, 16, of Woodlands was filmed on the day his parents made the agonising decision to put him into full-time residential care.

His mother, Lainey Miller – chair of Autism Bedfordshire - said she hoped the powerful documentary would raise awareness of the condition.

She added: “It shows the roller coaster of emotion you go through and the effect on the family.

“It also covers behaviour strategies and the research that is being done.”

In Growing Children – Autism, psychologist Laverne Antrobus discovers the different way the brain works in children with autism and talks to three families.
