The Choir were there as part of the Our Space initiative which enables community groups to showcase their activities.

They were positioned in The Mall’s Central Square and attracted an enthusiastic response after demonstrating their capabilities and inviting interested gentlemen to discuss group singing with a view to joining the choir.

There were mini 20 minute performances throughout the day as members sang a selection of their current repertoire including tunes from the shows and popular favourites chosen by musical director Phillida Driver.

Chairman Stuart Williams said: “I felt sure that our visit would be a total success and I was not disappointed. Indeed I would say it has been an overwhelming success.”

Vauxhall Male Voice Choir CDs also proved popular with Saturday shoppers.

> If you’re interested in joining the choir, ring secretary Brian Matthews on 01525 841077. Or come to a Wednesday evening practice at 7.30pm at St Margaret’s Church, Biscot Mill, Luton.
