Early blitz shatters Green’s Vase dreams

Crawley Green’s cup form this season remains a mystery compared to their league form as they were beaten 4-2 by SSML Premier Division side London Tigers in the FA Vase on Saturday.

The visitors had started well as JJ Billy’s shot went wide, while he then headed over after good work by Aaron Brown and Jack Downs.

On eight minutes, Crawley were behind as Sufyian Bettamer scored.

The visitors looked to level immediately as Billy forced a save from Pampolm after Henry Mungwira’s right wing cross.

Crawley continued to press, but defensive errors saw Tigers double their lead on 19 minutes when Bettamer had his second.

It was 3-0 just four minutes later too as Green’s defence stopped expecting an offside flag that never came and Hesham Benmansoor ran through to score.

Crawley gave themselves a lifeline just before half time when on 43 minutes, Mungwira pulled one back following good work by Ashton Grant.

The goal lifted Crawley and they piled the pressure on early in the second period as with 55 minutes gone, Stuart Strange’s cross was turned back in by Downs for Billy to head home.

However, try as they might, Crawley couldn’t find an equaliser and late on, Tigers sealed the win when Guy Tahin netted.

An own goal on 19 minutes set them on their way, before Liam Toomey made it 2-0 nine minutes later.

In the second half, Henry Mungwira added a third, while Toomey fired home on the hour mark, before Park pulled one back.
