Hatters boss reserves praise for striker Pigott

Hatters Town chief Nathan Jones felt striker Joe Pigott showed plenty of character during his second half efforts against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

The on-loan Charlton forward replaced Jack Marriott after 51 minutes, with many supporters wanting to see youngster Zane Banton introduced instead.

Pigott went on to endure a difficult evening, sending a number of shots off target as his efforts became increasingly frantic, but Jones said: “I’m pleased with Joe because he showed a lot of character.

“I think the more he tries it can become more difficult, but I’m pleased with him and I’ve told him I’m pleased, because in recent weeks he’s felt a bit sorry for himself.

“He got three or four chances from endeavour, from runs, from clever play, from quick feet and he’s had a bit of desire to score a goal.

“All it is probably is just a little bit of confidence lacking but he showed me that he’s taken on board things that we’ve said about he needed a bit more body language, needed a bit more hunger because his goals will come.

“Technically he’s a wonderful finisher, I want him to get a goal but I’m pleased with him.”
