A late penalty saw Dunstable Town fall to defeat at Slough Town on Saturday, stretching their winless away run to three games.

The game had seemed destined for an honourable draw until David Longe-King needlessly manhandled man of the match Guy Hollis in the area to concede a spotkick converted by Ed Smith.

The visitors had fielded an unchanged side from the Merthyr victory last weekend, although were forced into a change during the first half when Lee Roache limped off with a groin strain.

Home striker Lewis Putman was causing some problems, as his crosses were cleared by James Kaloczi and Adam Pepera, while James Head saved from Warren Harris.

A nice move involving Longe-King and Gary Wharton led to a cross to Danny Talbot who fired over, before Adam Watkins’ effort was held by keeper Mark Scott.

Slough saw a goal chalked off for offside, while Talbot tried his luck from 30-yards, only to Scott to gather comfortably.

Smith then came closest to an opener, thundering his shot against the underside of the bar and back into the grateful hands of Head.

Wharton sent a header well over, while Howard Hall was off target, as Connor Calcutt came on for the injured Roache.

After the break, Watkins put one shot wide, while Talbot saw his effort blocked too, before with 10 minutes remaining, Longe-King was penalised and Smith thumped home the penalty.

Calcutt tried to force a late leveller, but his header lacked direction, with Hall putting his effort straight at Scott, as the result saw Dunstable fall four points behind the play-off places and haven’t won on their travels now since December 12.

Dunstable travel to Bideford this weekend.
