Luton Town forward Paul Benson is relishing linking up with winger Danny Green once more.

The pair played together for Dagenham & Redbridge and Charlton earlier in their careers, before Green joined Benson at Kenilworth Road in the summer.

He has struggled for a starting role since, but earned a recall against Barnet on Saturday, scoring the first goal, with Benson finally available after a neck injury too.

On the partnership, Benson said: “He’s a good player Dan, he’s perfect for me, the way he plays.

“He gets the ball, gets it early, crosses it early which is good as when you make your runs, you always want the ball to be put into the box.

“Its always worked well when I’ve played with Dan, we’ve always had a good combination together.

“It’s good to see him back on the pitch, he hasn’t played for a long time and got a goal, with a fantastic strike which we know he can do.

“I don’t think the gaffer’s problem with him has been ability or talent, I think he probably just wants to get a bit more out of him.

“He just wants that same level he got from him when he had him back at the Daggers.

“If the gaffer can stay on top of Greeny and get the best out of him we’ve got a hell of a player there.”

Benson himself didn’t think the winger hadn’t brought his A game to training though, adding: “If you’re asking me, I think Dan’s always done really well when I’ve seen him in training, I don’t think he lacked effort really but the gaffer is the manager and he’s the one who makes the calls.

“It’s a hard one. The gaffer’s the manager and he sees thing that he requires and he demands out of players.

“I always think Dan’s a hard worker for a winger, but the gaffer has high standards he sets for people.

“He obviously wants Dan to stick to those high standards and I don’t think there’s a problem with that.”

Meanwhile, when asked about his partnership with Benson, Green himself added: “It helps playing with Benno, he’s a quality player, been a quality player all his career.

“He’s good at what he does, holds the ball up well and he’s unbelievable in the air. So for me he’s a dream to play with and hopefully he says the same about me as well as I just cross it.

“When we were at Dagenham, we scored a lot of goals together and even at Charlton as well, the first couple of weeks we combined well. He’s a great geezer as well.”
