In his first spell, Jones started with a 0-0 League Two draw against Cambridge at home, then won 2-0 at Mansfield before a 2-0 home defeat to Notts County and 1-1 draw with Yeovil. Luton triumphed 1-0 at Wycombe as although hammered 4-1 at AFC Wimbledon, it then clicked into gear, Town with four successive victories against Hartlepool (2-1), York (3-2), Morecambe (1-0) and Leyton Orient (1-0). Started the 1972-73 Division Two season with a 2-1 defeat at Cardiff. Beat Preston and Orient 1-0, before a 1-0 loss at Oxford. Three straight wins over Huddersfield (4-1), Nottingham Forest (1-0) and Brighton (2-1) followed, before a 4-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday. Then defeated Swindon 2-0 and drew 2-2 at home to Burnley. Kicked off the 1931-32 Division Three South season with a 2-1 defeat at Reading. Beat Northampton 1-0 and then lost to Southend 3-1, as Luton won 3-1 at Gillingham and were beaten 3-2 by Fulham.
