Following their second place in the table last term, three points behind leaders Galatasaray, Turkish daily newspaper Takvim is now stating that one of the Mourinho is intent on bolstering his strike-force, with Adebayo, who scored 10 goals during his maiden Premier League campaign for the Hatters, despite suffering with injuries, is one of the names at the top of his list.

The article said: “The last name on the Yellow-Navy Blue team's agenda is Elijah Adebayo. Negotiations will begin in the coming days for the star player, who was on the agenda at the last transfer meeting held between Fenerbahçe's new coach Jose Mourinho and the management. It was stated that Fenerbahçe Sporting Director Mario Branco will meet with the Luton Town management and the terms of the transfer will be discussed.

"The Yellow-Navy Blue people plan to complete this transfer in the 8-10 million Euro range. The 26-year-old centre-forward, who played in 27 matches in the previous season, managed to find the net 10 times. No transfer fee has been paid so far for Adebayo, a British striker of Nigerian origin who grew up in the Fulham infrastructure and has never played outside England.”

Town won’t want to let a player of Adebayo’s quality go, the striker having netted 42 goals in 141 matches since signing from Walsall in February 2021. Discussing whether he is expecting to have to sell any of his top talents during the summer, boss Rob Edwards said recently: "It’s inevitable there’s always going to be a little bit of change, but if we’d have stayed up, that would have been the same.

"We do want to keep the majority of the group together and I’m pretty sure we will do that. We’re in a good position, we’re in control of a lot of things, a lot of lads are still under contract, so we do have some control in that and some say in that, but we’ll always have to work out what is the best thing for the football club and there is a human side to everything as well.”
