Former Ram O’Brien trialling with Luton

Luton Town boss John Still has confirmed that former Derby County defender Mark O’Brien is on trial with the club.

The 22-year-old was released by the Rams in the summer, after spending time on loan at Scottish Premier League side Motherwell last season, making 21 appearances.

O’Brien, who has played for Ireland at U19 level, and represented Derby in the Championship, is currently on Town’s pre-season training camp in Portugal, as Still said: “Mark has come out with us and I knew Mark, I’d seen him play before at Derby and Motherwell.

“When we found out that he hadn’t been retained at Derby, we spoke to someone at Derby who recommended him highly.

“I said ‘why not come and do a little bit of work with us.’ We’ll have a good look at him, he can have a good look at us and we’ll decide from there.”

Speaking the Derby Telegraph about his release from Pride Park, O’Brien said: “Being on loan at Motherwell has been good for me because I had to prove to people I was injury free and prove there is not a question mark over me.

“I have had no injuries or hiccups recently and I am feeling good. I know I can push for a starting spot in a team, wherever it may be.”
