The 22-year-old, who has represented the Three Lions at U15 to U20 level, won his first cap for the U21s during their 7-0 victory over Luxembourg at Bolton Wanderers’ Toughsheet Stadium in March, coming on for the final half an hour. He missed the 4-1 win over Austria at Kenilworth Road back in September and although not initially named by boss Ben Futcher, has been called up due to Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones joining Lee Carsley’s senior men’s team ahead of their UEFA Nations League fixtures against Greece and Finland.

Mengi, who has made 44 appearances for the Hatters since arriving from Manchester United, is joined in the squad by Tottenham Hotspur forward Dane Scarlett, who is currently on loan at Oxford United, while Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney have pulled out, remaining with their clubs on medical advice. The Young Lions face Ukraine at AFC Bournemouth’s sold-out Vitality Stadium on Friday, before taking on Azerbaijan at Ashton Gate, the home of Bristol City, next Tuesday.
