Luton made it through to the third round of the Carabao Cup after beating League Two Gillingham 3-2 at Kenilworth Road last night.
Jacob Brown, Alfie Doughty and Cauley Woodrow were all on target for the hosts, and to see how the Hatters players rated on the evening, see below.
5. Alfie Doughty: 7.5
Was able to let out his frustrations over a lack of game time so far, putting plenty behind his free kick that simply whistled into the top corner to make it 2-0. Had already gone close inside 60 seconds when his fierce shot was charged down inside the area as he gave his manager a hefty nudge to start in the Premier League encounters. Although on the right hand side, he was still able to cut in on his left and deliver when the chance arose. Photo: Liam Smith
6. Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu: 6.5
Playing in the deep-lying midfield role, he looked to get the possession off the back three and spread the play, sending the ball to either flank when afforded the space to do so. Might have been on target himself after the break, his touch letting him down when trying to lob over a defender and then seeing one effort charged down. Photo: Liam Smith
7. Luke Berry: 7
Good to see him getting some minutes as he looked to get involved from the start and win the midfield battle. Battled well to set up Brown for his early goal, and then teed up Doughty to make it 2-0. One chance for himself after breaking through the middle was saved, but picked up a needless booking and then had to keep on the right side of referee Simpson, which he just about managed to do. Withdrawn early in the second half, as he will be looking to play in round three. Photo: Liam Smith
8. Ryan Giles: 6
Clattered by Dieng which earned the midfielder a booking, although Town's summer signing managed to shrug off the injury and carry on. Crossing wasn’t of the standard that he has managed on so many other occasions as the Gills defence was more often than not able to clear the danger. Replaced by Kabore on the hour mark.
