Hatters rated v Bristol City

Scott Cuthbert: 8 - Defender looks to have settled in seamlessly and was constantly in the right place to divert a number of Luke Ayling’s dangerous crosses out of harms way.

Steve McNulty: 8 - Skipper kept £2m man Jonathan Kodjia quiet for the majority of the encounter and relished the chance to bring the ball out of defence whenever possible.

Luke Wilkinson: 8.5 - Magnificent display from the centre half, particularly one lung-busting charge back to prevent the Robins from breaking clear in the first half, which got Hatters’ players and supporters going.

Stephen O’Donnell: 7 - Adapting to both the pace of English football and the right wing back role, but made a number of breaks forward that often unfortunately went unnoticed by his team-mates.

Cameron McGeehan: 7.5 - Added plenty of energy and verve to the centre of midfield. Lovely ball over the top for Marriott’s first too as he was another to stake his claim.

Mark O’Brien: 6.5 - Caught short in possession a few times early on, but settled into his role and allowed others around him to bomb on when Town wrested control their way.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu: 7.5 - Took him a while to get going as his passing and decision-making went awry early on. However, once he picked up the pace, was back to the Pelly of old, and a glorious pass for Benson’s goal.

Dan Potts: 7 - Slotted in on the left for his Town debut and had his hands full with the threat of Ayling, particularly in the opening period. Stuck to the task well though and always looks confident in possession

Jack Marriott: 8.5 (STAR MAN) - Lively all evening as he never stopped pestering the Robins defence. Took his chances expertly and manager John Still now faces a real selection headache upfront this weekend.

Paul Benson: 8 - Worked really well alongside Marriott with his usual intelligent link-up play. Good run and finish for his crucial second goal too.

Nathan Doyle (SUB): 6 - Came on when Luton were just being pushed on to the back foot and added a bit more steel to the defensive screen.

Josh McQuoid (SUB): 6 - Replaced Marriott late on but Luton were tiring by then so didn’t spring forward as much as they had.

Scott Griffiths (SUB): 6.5 - Thrown on for the final minutes in an unaccustomed right wingback role but stuck to his task manfully as always.
