Luton boss Nathan Jones has confirmed that defender Tom Lockyer will miss this weekend’s home game against Wycombe Wanderers.

The centre half was expected to be included in Wales manager Ryan Giggs’ squad for the upcoming triple header yesterday, but was left out, with an ankle injury cited by the Manchester United legend.

Jones admitted that was the case and that the summer signing from Charlton Athletic will now target being fit for the game against Stoke City on October 17.

He said: “We’ve had to pull him out, he’s not fully fit for us yet so basically if he goes away with Wales and plays then it will be detrimental to us.

“Even though I’m a Welshman we have to come first.

“We had to rectify something so we had to make a decision, do we persevere or do we just pull him out of the game this week and be ready for the game against Stoke?

“So it’s just a sensible one really and sometimes these decisions have to be made.

“If it was two games from the end, he would have still been available because we would have persevered with it but it’s not.

"We’re three games in and haven’t had a proper pre-season so again, he is one that is playing a little bit of catch up.

“We’ve got people here who are further ahead in the preparation than him so it’s just a logical one.”
