Howells made his Town debut in May 2008, during a 1-0 defeat against Huddersfield in League One.

He has now played 299 games, scoring 30 goals in the process and on his impending achievement, team-mate Alex Lawess, who himself has featured 160 times for Hatters, said: “There’s players like Jake who play so many positions and don’t complain, but just get on with their job.

“To think at 23, to play 300 games, it says it all and he’s an asset to our team and squad.

“I think Jake needs to really get a pat on the back for that. I hope he starts on Saturday and gets a goal, as he deserves it.”
