The Hatters had seen off Leeds United, Leicester City, Ipswich Town, Blackpool and Norwich City to reach Wembley, but in front of 100,000 people, were 2-0 down inside 15 minutes. Dave Pacey pulled one back just after the hour mark, but Town couldn't find an equaliser in what remains the only time they have reached this stage of the competition. Below, the Luton News takes a look at just who lined up for Luton that day.
9. Bob Morton
Three goals en route to the final, scoring in the third round win over Leeds United, plus a brace as Ipswich were hammered 5-2. Town's leading appearance maker in the Football League with 495 to his name.
10. George Cummins
Like the whole side, played all nine games in the competition as Hatters fell just short at Wembley. Irish international signed from Everton in 1953 and stayed at Kenilworth Road until 1961, joining Cambridge City.
11. Tony Gregory
Controversially chosen ahead of leading scorer Gordon Turner for the final, although had scored four goals in the earlier rounds, two against Leeds and one in the victories over Leicester and Ipswich.
