Harry Haslam's side headed to the Hawthorns needing just a point to go up, as they took the lead through Barry Butlin, before the Baggies levelled from the spot late on. Finished as Town's leading marksman in the league campaign, with 17 goals in his 37 outings. Netted at the Hawthorns that day, while also bagged a treble in the 4-3 victory against Preston North End too.
10. Alan West
Midfielder signed during the season from Burnley and went on from to play 33 times for the club, scoring once in the 3-1 victory over Bristol City.
11. John Aston
Featured 39 times for the Hatters, while adding six goals, five of them coming in his opening 16 appearances before ending his barren run with the third in the 3-1 win over Hull on March 9.
12. Manager: Harry Haslam
Took over in 1972 and led the club to promotion up to the First Division. Luton's stay was a brief one, relegated the following campaign as after finishes of seventh and sixth in Division Two, Haslam moved to Sheffield United.
