Personal milestones will drive Hatters towards the title

Still said: “I’ve lost count of the amount of people who’ve said, you probably only need three points now, five points now, or that might be enough.

“We’ve got nine games to play, 27 points to play for. I’ve got two people on personal milestones, Andre to get 30 goals and Paul, who came into the team late, to get 20 goals.

“We’ve got so much we can achieve, but the only thing I want is promotion. If we can achieve that then the personal things come into it and by them getting their persoanl totals, that’s going to enhance where we finish.

“I want us to score as many goals as we can and win as many games as we can, that’s what we’re building here.”

On the test that the Mariners, who are making a concerted effort to reach the play-offs this term, will possess, Still said: “It will be tough, but will it be tougher than Saturday? Will it be tougher than midweek or Monday?

“Wherever we go and whoever we play at this stage of the season, it’s going to be tough.

“I can’t remember the last time that I sat here at one of these press conferences where we spoke about a game and I’ve said, that will be easy, we’ll win that comfortably.

“We got back to scoring goals on Saturday, I was pleased with that. When was the last time they (Chester) conceded three as they’ve been battling since Steve’s (Burr) been there.

“It was edgy, but do I expect to be edgy? I do. We’ve got to that stage of the season so I’ve got no problems with that.

“We’ve put ourselves in a fantastic position and we’ve just got to work our socks off every game.

“We’ve defended unbelievably, I think we’ve conceded three goals in the last 10 games, we’re the league’s leading goalscorers.

“We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing, scrap and battle and get as many points as we can which we’ve done all season.”

If and when Town do go up this season, Still won’t let the personal celebrations last too long as he will be more interested in planning for the new campaign and an assault on League Two.

He added: “Obviously I want to go up. But for me, my job is to get the next rung of the ladder.

“As soppy as it sounds, if we do it, as soon as we do it, I’m going to be happy, I’m going to get drunk, I’m going to enjoy myself.

“But the day after I’ve got to put another foot on the next rung of the ladder, because that’s my job, that’s what I do.

“I’ve become a Luton supporter because I manage the club. I just want the best for everyone, personally it’s the next step and that’s how it is.

“There’s so much more that we can try and help the club achieve and that’s what I want to do.”
