With the Hatters on the end of yet another poor refereeing decision during last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland, Amad Diallo awarded a penalty after going to ground in the area, the Luton News ran a poll this week asking fans to select the worst call by an official this season.
To find out what ended up as the winner, see the special gallery below.
9. Tom Lockyer not awarded a penalty against Reading
With Luton and Reading playing out a goalless draw, centre half Tom Lockyer had penalty claims turned away by John Brooks after being manhandled inside the area when trying to win a corner. Former chief Nathan Jones said afterwards: "It’s literally two yards in front of him, Lockyer gets away and he’s rugby tackled." Photo: Justin Setterfield
10. Elijah Adebayo's rejected spot-kick claim at Sunderland
With Luton 1-0 up at the Stadium of Light, striker Elijah Adebayo went to ground inside the box after tussling with home defender Lynden Gooch. It looked like the Hatters forward was clearly fouled, and referee Scott Oldham did end up whistling, only to then give a free kick in favour of the Black Cats, Adebayo hammering the ground in frustration. 11. Tom Lockyer's handball at Preston
With Luton 1-0 up at Deepdale and having missed a load of chances, they were made to pay when Preston attacker Troy Parrott's cross-shot struck the outstretched arm of Tom Lockyer from close range, with referee Josh Smith pointing to the spot, Parrott doing the business from 12 yards. 12. Tom Lockyer sent off against Burnley
With time running out and Luton holding leaders Burnley at Kenilworth Road, Gabe Osho conceded a penalty for handball with Tom Lockyer booked for his complaints to referee Jeremy Simpson. The defender carried on after the spot-kick was scored and earned a red card for his troubles, the Hatters also punished for apparently surrounding the official as well. Photo: Tony Marshall
