Smith backs Green to come back strongly after injury

Hatters midfielder Jonathan Smith has backed team-mate Danny Green to come back strongly from the suspected broken leg suffered at Northampton Town on Saturday.

Green was stretchered off inside the opening 20 minutes of the clash at Sixfields after coming off worse when sliding in on Cobblers’ full back Josh Lelan and needing extensive treatment, plus an oxygen mask before being taken to hospital with his leg in a protective brace.

Smith, who suffered a horrific double leg break himself during the 2-1 win at Barnet in December 2013, knows Green faces a long road ahead, but said: “I’ve just text him to say I’ve been there and he will come back stronger.

“A leg break, it’s bad, there’s no doubt about it but you can come back.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Olly Lee admitted the injury affected Town’s players on the day as he said: “We all feel for Danny, he’s a great lad and hopefully he comes back from it stronger.

“You could see he was in agony, so we just hope he can get better, that’s the main thing.

“It’s a bit of a blow when there’s a five, six minute stoppage, you see him down writhing in pain.

“It’s not nice at all as Greeny’s a popular member of the group, it’s horrible to see, I just hope it’s not as bad as first feared and he’ll come back stronger.”
