SWIMMING: Medals galore for Team Luton

Team Luton sent 21 elite junior and youth swimmers to the East Region Championships at Luton’s Inspire Sports village and the Junior Championships held in Norwich last month.

In total, the club returned with a haul of three gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals.

Chantal Smith, 15, managed three of the medals, winning gold in the 200m freestyle, with a PB of 2.11.11mins. She also claimed second in the 400m freestyle (4.39.65mins) and third in the 800m freestyle (9.45.13mins), and swum a host of other races, with a best in the 50m breaststroke of 37.47secs.

Abby Geen swum 1.07.95mins in the O17 100m butterfly, while Aaron Hird, 16, had a PB of 1.25.36mins in the 100m breaststroke (SB9 Disability Category), while also going in the 100m butterfly (1.10.00mins) and 50m butterfly (29.34secs, PB).

Caitlin Moriarty, 15, managed 34.58secs in the 50m backstroke, while Emma Cattle swum the O17 Disability Categories S10, SB9 and SM10, in the 100m butterfly (1.19.78mins), 100m freestyle (1.11.02mins) and 100m backstroke (1.19.25mins).

In the O17 category, Jamie Fowler came eighth in the 200m backstroke with 2.14.81mins, while he managed a PB of 29.73secs in the 50m backstroke too, while Lucy Gee reached the final of the 200m butterfly, clocking 2.39.83mins for seventh.

Matthew Wright took on six O17 events, including the 400m freestyle (4.18.20mins) and 1,500m freestyle (16.52.04mins), with O17 Nathan Greene going in three Disability Categories S9,SB8,SM9, with a time of 1.19.62mins in the 100m backstroke.

Fellow O17 swimmer Nicola Pasquire had a busy schedule, as she swum in five events, claiming second in the 800m freestyle (9.20.61mins) and fifth in the 200m freestyle with 2.13.63mins.

Ryan Jarvis, 16, had a successful meet too, placing fourth in the 200m breaststroke with a PB of 2.34.60mins and another best of 1.11.30mins in the 100m breaststroke to finish fifth, while O17 Sam Bradley went in Disability Categories S7,SB6,SM7, as he managed 5.37.12 in the 400m freestyle and 1.27.91mins in the 100m backstroke.

The Team Luton swimmers now eagerly awaiting confirmation to find out how many have qualified for the British and English summer championships in August at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
