TENNIS: Golden treble for Mabbitt

Dunstable tennis player Harry Mabbitt won the golden trio at the Bedfordshire County Closed Championships last week.

The 20-year-old was at the event at Riverside TC in Bedford, winning the Open Mens Singles, Open Mens Doubles and Open Mixed Doubles too.

In the singles, Mabbitt, seeded number one, saw off Cesar Puente Preciado 6-3, 6-2 and Jacob Turley 6-0, 6-0 to reach the final.

There he played Daniel Pymont and eased to a 6-0, 6-3 victory to be crowned champion.

In the doubles, Mabbitt was paired with Caldwell, as the second seeds and saw off Richard Ball and Hayden Jones on their way to the final where they beat Benedict Turley and Jacob Turley 6-2, 6-4.

The mixed doubles saw Mabbitt and Sharna McNally knock out Garry Morris and Nicola Morris to face Nick Boys and Claire Raddan in the final, triumphing 6-4, 6-4.

Mabbitt now heads off to the Aegon British Tour event in Oxford where he faces Alexis Canter.

In the Ladies competition, Dunstable’s Sara Leavy, 28, won after beating Claire Raddan 6-1, 1-0 (retired in the final).

Luton’s Natalya Ogunwala had made the semi-finals after defeating Emily St John, but then had to pull out.
