Love Luton: Plenty to celebrate as autumn arrives
Love Luton column by Linsey Sweet, chair of Love Luton

As we move firmly into autumn, there is still plenty to celebrate across our town.
Last month's Love Luton RunFest once again proved what can be achieved when our community comes together. 2,000 runners took to the streets of Luton and, in doing so, helped raise over £75,000 for local charities. Whether participants were chasing personal bests, running for causes close to their hearts, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, thousands of people played their part in making the event a huge success. A huge thank you to our headline sponsor Luton Rising, to our Love Luton businesses, the volunteers and supporters who helped make the event such a memorable day.

As the evenings become darker and the temperatures begin to drop, many families will already be looking forward to one of Luton's most popular annual events. The Luton Rising Fireworks Spectacular returns to Popes Meadow on November 7, promising another fantastic evening for residents to enjoy safely with friends and family. It's always a highlight of the autumn calendar and a great opportunity for our community to come together.
While we all look forward to the celebrations, it is also worth remembering that fireworks can cause distress to neighbours, pets and vulnerable residents. We would encourage everyone to be considerate and enjoy fireworks responsibly, rather than letting them off night after night. By thinking of others, we can ensure everyone is able to enjoy a peaceful evening.
This is also an exciting time for local businesses, community groups and residents as entries officially opened for the 17th Luton's Best Awards. These awards celebrate the people, organisations and businesses that go above and beyond to make our town a better place. Every year we hear inspiring stories about those making a real difference in their communities, often without seeking recognition. If you know someone who deserves to be celebrated, please take the time to submit a nomination. It is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the very best of Luton and the people whose commitment helps our town thrive.
Talking of local pride, it has been fantastic to see Luton Town Football Club secure four consecutive victories. Football has a unique ability to bring people together and recent weeks have provided a real boost for supporters across the town. We know that when the Hatters are doing well, there is a real sense of optimism and excitement that spreads far beyond the stadium.

Luton Town is much more than a football club. It is part of the identity of our town and a source of civic pride for generations of residents. The club's story mirrors so much of Luton's own character: resilient, determined, ambitious and proud of where it comes from. The support shown at Kenilworth Road, through both the highs and lows, demonstrates just how important the club is to our community.
Whether you're supporting the Hatters, looking forward to the fireworks, nominating a local hero for a Luton's Best Award, or simply enjoying everything our town has to offer this autumn, there is much to be proud of. Luton continues to be defined by its strong communities, generous spirit and the people who come together to make a difference every day.
That's something worth celebrating.
