From designing royal regalia to recreating iconic London landmarks, staff and students at a multi-academy trust entered into the spirit of national celebration to mark the Coronation of the new King and Queen.

The creative skills of children at The Rushmere Park Academy in Leighton Buzzard were put to the test with a crown-designing contest. Headteacher Jonathan Callender and chief executive officer Cathy Barr had the difficult job of judging the impressive entries.

Creating memories

Pupils also enjoyed an action-packed afternoon including a treasure hunt, bingo, musical games, a quiz and collage-making. They were later joined by parents for a special after-school party along with the chance to record memories of the event in a Coronation photo booth.

At The Linden Academy in Luton, budding artists wowed staff with their amazing designs and models representing some of the key places and objects at the centre of the ceremony. Their colourful creations included Westminster Abbey, royal thrones, carriages, crowns and sceptres.

Royal picnic

A feast fit for a king was the order of the day at The Vale Academy, Dunstable, where pupils adopted a distinctly regal air to enjoy a royal picnic dressed as kings and queens.

Secondary school students at The Stockwood Park Academy meanwhile started the day by tucking into scones and cakes for breakfast with the national anthem providing a fitting musical backdrop to the festivities.

The themed menu continued at lunch-time both there and at The Chalk Hills Academy and students also held a sale of cakes, flags and crowns.

CEO Cathy Barr said: “It was delightful to see staff and pupils from across The Shared Learning Trust celebrate the King’s Coronation with a fantastic variety of activities.

“The enthusiasm and enjoyment was clearly shown which in turn reinforced the importance of camaraderie and celebrating together, bringing our school communities closer.”
