A new family-run restaurant is offering the first of its kind food in Luton.

Savci, which opened at 620 Hitchin Road, Stopsley, back in November, has gained a strong following for online orders and sit-in meals ever since.

Staffed by a highly experienced authentic Turkish chef, the menu offers a mix of Mezze – how about delicious halloumi, calamari, falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, seafood or salads – as well as mouthwatering mains. Choose from specials like the Savci Tomahawk steak, chicken guvec, lamb moussaka or mantar dolma, among many others.

One of the standout dishes on the menu is the restaurant’s Mix SAVCI Special, which features succulent lamb chops, marinated chicken and tender mix Adana Kofte, all served with grilled vegetables and fluffy rice. Vegetarians can enjoy dishes such as the Halloumi wrap or the cold mixed mezze platter, which includes a variety of dips, stuffed vine leaves and falafel.

The restaurant, which has a modern, industrialist vibe and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, was the brainchild of Juthsna Miah.

“My family are in the restaurant business already, but I had to shield during lockdown, and I spent a lot of my time watching documentaries as I was bored. I loved watching series about the Ottoman Empire, and was really impressed by the story of Savci, the older brother of Osman 1, the founder of the Ottoman Empire; he spent his time researching herbs and ways to heal people. From there, I explored a lot of the culture and heritage and really wanted to bring a taste of Turkey to Luton.

“The discovery of new herbs and spices from across several borders created the flavours you taste today. Being the first Turkish restaurant in Stopsley, we at Savci are determined to ensure our diners have a culinary experience rich in taste, blending traditional authentic dishes with contemporary techniques.”

By recruiting authentic Turkish staff and working with the chef to develop a menu that matched her vision of exquisite and interesting dining, Savci was born.

And reviewer Claire highly recommends a visit, saying “The food was superb, fresh, varied and mouth-watering and the cocktails are fabulous.”

More than 100 people have reviewed it on google, where it regularly scores four and five stars.

Danielle Purdy wrote: “Wow wow wow ... can't recommend the new restaurant Savci enough. Incredible service and food and the best baklava I have probably ever tasted. It’s such a beautiful restaurant as well, with a great vibe. The staff couldn't do enough either! Highly recommend!!!”

Juthsna says the food, and the reviews, do the talking for them, but she and her family are delighted by how popular the restaurant has been since it opened: “Everybody who comes in says how nice it is.”

SAVCI is open seven days a week, including bank holidays, serving lunch and dinner, and also offers a takeaway service for those who want to enjoy their food from the comfort of their own home.
