These voluntary challenges were part of a wider event created by the care home’s owner which is working to encourage residents to engage with and feel a part of the community that they’re based in.

Quantum Care, a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, set down 15 challenges to all 22 of its care homes as part of a competition that took place across the month of October. Each challenge was community related with residents either going out into the community or inviting community members into their home.

Residents from Dukeminster Court successfully completed challenges including getting photographs taken of themselves with staff members at a local café and with the manager of a local pub. Other challenges included securing donations for a charity raffle, visiting iconic landmarks, securing a visit to the home from the Mayor of Dunstable and hosting an animal pets visit. The home also completed the business challenge which included visiting the previous place of employment of one of the residents who had worked in the Dunstable branch of Boots for over 40 years so she could reminisce with staff currently working there.

Angela Lartey, Dukeminster Court’s Manager said: “It was absolutely brilliant to see how much our residents enjoyed this event! They had a great time and were able to meet some fantastic local people. I would like to extend our grateful thanks to the wonderful Dunstable community for their incredible support and generosity!”
