Signal problems spark rush-hour delays for Luton commuters

Luton rail passengers faced a battle to get to work on Thursday morning as delays piled up on Thameslink services through Bedfordshire.
Trouble started with signal problems at Harpenden just after 7am and were compounded as a southbound service was held at West Hampstead when a passenger was taken ill, holding up later trains.

Hide AdThe train operator predicted problems were likely to continue until 10am on Thursday (January 30).
A Thameslink spokesman said: "A fault with the signalling system at Harpenden is causing disruption to journeys.
"Whilst repairs are underway, Network Rail requested for fewer trains to run on the affected lines to prevent a build up of delayed trains on this section of the railway.
"Trains running between Luton and London St Pancras International may be cancelled or delayed. If you're travelling from London towards Luton and Bedford, you may need to change trains to reach your destination, increasing your journey time by up to 15 minutes.

Hide Ad"Sutton and Wimbledon services to St Albans will terminate and start back from West Hampstead so if you're travelling further north please change at Blackfriars or St Pancras for connections towards Luton and Bedford.
"Gatwick Airport to Bedford services may run non-stop between St Pancras and Luton Airport Parkway."
