With Luton having a number of academy graduates on their bench in recent weeks due to a huge injury list at Kenilworth Road, the latest to be included was defender Christian Chigozie, who is still just 16-years-old and taking his GCSEs this summer.
Although the teenager hasn't been called upon by boss Rob Edwards for a taste of first team action yet, if he did get on, he would be one of the youngest players to ever represent the Hatters in a senior game. The Luton News has put together a gallery of the 15 youngest players to do so in the club’s history and to find out who they are, see below.
13. Arthur Read: 17 years, 5 days
Given his debut by Luton chief Nathan Jones in the 3-1 Checkatrade Trophy group stage defeat to Millwall on November 8, 2016. The midfielder was highly thought of at Kenilworth Road, making seven appearances and scoring once, but opted to go to Brentford B in 2019. 14. Jake Howells: 17 years, 15 days
Having come through with the Hatters, he was given a first appearance by Mick Harford in the League One 1-0 loss against Huddersfield at Kenilworth Road on May 3, 2008. Flourished after that, as he went on to play 334 times for Luton, scoring 31 goals too. Left in 2016 once the club were back in the Football League again and went to Eastleigh, Dagenham & Redbridge, Billericay, Hemel Hempstead and Kings Langley before eventually calling time on his playing career. 15. Ricky Hill: 17 years, 45 days
An unbelievable success story for the Hatters after Harry Haslam put him in the first team as a teenager during the Division Two 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers on April 19, 1976. From there, he became a player most supporters describe as the best to ever put on a Luton shirt, as he made 508 appearances, the third most in Town's history. scoring 65 goals to0. Won three England caps too, as he left for Le Havre in 1990 also playing for Leicester City and Tampa Bay Rowdies. Photo: Hatters Heritage
