Luton Town HC’s Juniors took on Shefford & Sandy and Leighton Buzzard in a series of friendly games at the weekend.

The two U8 Luton Town teams each played five matches with mixed results but all performed well, especially those for whom it was their first proper match.

Meanwhile, the U10s were in action too as they won one, drew one and lost one.

Luton’s U12s travelled to Shefford and Sandy as they started slowly in their first game, narrowly losing 2-1.

However, they bounced back to win their remaining two games 3-2 and 2-1.

The Luton Juniors all play in their own club tournament on Sunday at Challney Girls School.

Luton Town HC Ladies drew 1-1 at Bishop’s Stortford IIs in their Five Counties League Premier Division clash on Saturday.

The visitors fell behind when Ella Dagnall’s misdirected pass fell to the hosts striker who fired past Sharna Gough.

Luton quickly responded earning themselves a penalty corner, which striker Suzanne Starkey propelled through the keepers legs into the goal to make it 1-1.

After the break, Starkey had a goal disallowed, while Dagnall was shown a green card, as the home side’s strong defending saw the spoils shared, with Tara Clancy named star player.

The IIs beat Welwyn IVs 3-0 at home in Division Five as they were ahead when Sam Sweet’s shot hit the post and Helen Beattie netted the rebound.

After the break, a long corner set play, taken by Olivia Sturrock, saw Claire Clancey’s shot deflected in by Sweet.

The third goal followed from a short corner scored by Sturrock as player of the match went to Sweet.

The men’s IIs lost 7-2 to Broxbourne IIIs, while the IIIs had to forfeit the game against Hertford Vs.

Meanwhile, Kieron Whitehall, Robert Shearer and Anwar Yusuf have passed their assessment to become qualified hockey umpires.
