Counties One Midlands East (South): Stockwood Park 5 Wellingborough 42

Stockwood Park were beaten 42-5 at home by Counties 1 Midlands East (South) League leaders Wellingborough on Saturday who demonstrated just why they are at the summit with some clinical finishing.

The hosts had started brightly, putting together some early pressure with centres Sean Martyn and Nick Dundee making good runs to stretch the visitors defence.

With Conor Underwood and Michael Powell ruling the lineout and captain Jack Brooks as industrious as ever, Park were able to mount some promising attacks.

The visitors, however, showed their threat when turning over the ball and counter-attacking at pace to open the scoring after 15 minutes, two further tries following to make it 21-0 at half time.

The second period followed a similar pattern and although Park got a try back when Nick Dundee sprinted over after good approach work, the visitors’ quality made them deserved winners on the day.

Next week Stockwood, who are now sixth in the table with five wins from their first eight matches, have another tough fixture as they travel to second placed Vipers, kick-off at 1pm.
