The majority of the team from last year are remaining with the notable departure of try-scoring machine, Steve Ellis, who has been offered the opportunity to complete pre season with Bedford.

Allen said: “It’s tough to lose someone of Steve’s ability but is a sign of our success in developing young players.”

Allen has recruited a number of key players not least David Duffus who has recently retired from the British Army who he represented several times and plays on the elite 7’s circuit.

He continued: “I have known Dave for a while through our work with the rugby charity The School of Hard Knocks.

“He is a real talent and can play across the back line. He brings exceptional leadership skills and experience.”

Luton are also delighted to see the return of Heineken cup winner Matt Allen to the club.

He led the coaching staff a few years ago, but has returned to look after the backs and his rugby pedigree and experience will be a huge boost to the young back line .

Joining Matt as a player/coach is ex-Northampton and Bedford star Jon Phillips, who will work alongside the current forwards coach, Darren Moore and will be available for a limited number of matches.

The club is also growing its other adult teams and welcomes players of all abilities to enjoy the benefits of joining a progressive but community club.
