Totternhoe ukulele group donates thousands of pounds to charity
UkieTooNes, the Totternhoe-based ukulele group dedicated to raising money for charity, has revealed it has now personally handed out £94,000 to charities.
The group, founded by Colin Creasey (Zoot TooNe), Steve Robson and Jane Power (Sister Jane) in 2012, meets on the first and third Friday of every month and welcomes players and singalong fans aged from nine to 79.
Its most recent donations over the bank holiday included £4,000 to main charity YAWN (Young Adults with Needs), £1,000 to Friends Within (LB Mencap), £1,000 to Yes We Can, part of Leighton Buzzard Rotary Club, and £1,000 to Growbaby.
Colin explained: “Last year we decided to only focus on and promote what we had given out from our actual accounts as it was getting confusing relying on event appearances and charges and couldn't be documented properly, so we have actually given out £94,000 personally from UkieTooNes.”
The club was created to bring a little light entertainment to Totternhoe Football and Social Club, have fun, dress up and raise money for good causes.
It’s open to anyone who plays, wants to learn or would just like to sing along. It welcomes everyone from beginners to virtuosos.
Charity causes helped so far include: Ukes for Africa, The Next step, Young Adults with Needs, Friends within, Medical Detection Dogs, Willen, Hospice, Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Bedford Hospital, Alzheimers, British heart foundation, Click Sargeant, Leukemia, St Francis Hospice, PACE, Camphill campus, White ribbon, Shelter, Unicef, The Jane's Foundation, Tickled Pink, Sunshine club, Breast cancer, Stockwell Lodge, Dementia UK, Just ask Clive, British Legion, Ms4Ms, Homeless veterans, Scottys Soldiers, Help for Heroes, Kids out, Morrisons world cancer day, Appledown rescue, Comic relief, Marsh Farm community, GOSH, Autism uk, Charlie's Gift and MNDA.
