Cavaliers remain afloat thanks to Tahir’s blast

KASHMIR Cavaliers kept their hopes of staying in the Luton & District Midweek League Premier Division alive as they beat Luton Hawks in a thrilling encounter on Tuesday night.

Hawks elected to bat and hammered 145-4 thanks to Zahid Karim (49) and Awais Malik (43).

In reply, Cavaliers were always under pressure knowing that a loss would relegate them to Division One, but Imran Tahir blasted a superb 84 to lead his team to 146-2.

Cavaliers will now be hoping to escape the drop on the last day if they win against champions Luton Pakistanis and Lions CC lose to AKCC.

Luton Pakistanis registered another victory, this time a narrow seven-run triumph over Lions CC. Pakistanis smashed 144-9 thanks to Haji Arif (23) and Ibrar Walayat (30), with Nazakat Khan (3-34) bowling well.

Lions got off to a great start through Ishaq Shah (56) and Rasib Khan (23), but Tahir Murtuza put the brakes on with 3-20 to restrict Lions to 137-7.

Luton Haiderys moved up to second in the table after securing a close-fought win over AKCC.

Choosing to bat, AKCC struggled to 84 all out with Zawar Hussain taking 2-13 and Nayyar Hussain claiming 3-20.

In reply, Haiderys top order was blown away by Fiaz Ahmed who claimed 5-19, but Zawar Shah hit a vital 43 in a two-wicket success.

Both relegated teams, Luton Cricketers and Luton CC, were involved in an exciting game as Cricketers came out on top by 11 runs.

They made 130-8 after batting first, while Luton CC eventually fell short as they were bowled out for 119.

Luton Majestic remain on top of Division One as they beat relegated The Saracens.

Saracens could only register 93-9 versus the newly-crowned Cup holders and this target proved short as Majestic captain Muddasar Hussain scored 43 not out to lead his side to a seven-wicket triumph.

Kingsway CC hammered Haidery Tigers to remain three points behind leaders Majestic with only two games remaining.

Kingsway batted first and the dangerous Gurdeep Jandu smashed 72, receiving good support from Omraiz Khan who hit 22. Abid Hussain claimed 4-37, but it wasn’t enough to stop Kingsway reaching 147-6.

Tigers, who are already relegated, never looked to trouble the scorers despite Khuram Ayub’s 31 as they were all out for 79 with Umar Afzal notching his second five wicket haul of the season, taking 5-18.

Luton United Stars climbed out of the relegation zone as they powered to a huge 178-9 against AKXI.

Stars had Imran Aftab in top form as his 56 helped his side reach their highest total of the season.

In reply, Zaheer Khan (4-16) tore through AKXI’s top order as they struggled to 95-8.

Relegated Luton Saracens damaged Shaheen’s hopes of staying up as they edged a thrilling encounter.

Saracens batted first and made 115-6 thanks to Abdul Qadeer, who hit 50.

In reply, Saracens were always in the hunt, but two wickets for Qadeer saw them fall just six runs short on 109.
