Blues fall to Puritans defeat

Southern League Premier Division: Dunstable Town 2 Banbury United 3.

Dunstable Town slipped to their second defeat of the season as they went down 3-2 against Banbury United at Creasey Park last night.

The hosts brought in Christopher Marsh for David Hutton and he went close early on, denied by a fine Leigh Bedwell save.

The exquisitely named Shepherd Murombedzi netted for the Puritans and only made a token protest at the off-side decision, while Gary Mulligan had shot saved by Bedwell.

Dunstable then took the lead on 16 minutes when a measured Charlie Henry cross was headed in by Mulligan.

However, Banbury came fighting back as Ben Herd cleared off the line, while Murombedziu and Leam Howards had decent chances, the latter needing Luke Chambers to save low down.

Marsh and Mulligan went close, before Banbury levelled on 28 minutes when a defensive error saw Murombedzi shepherd the ball home.

Henry then injured his hamstring as he was replaced by Hutton, while in the second half, Howards put Banbury ahead and they made it 3-1 soon afterwards when Darius Brown netted.

That breathed life back into Dunstable though as Marsh immediately pulled one back on 59 minutes and the Blues should have drawn, only for Scott Davies to miss from close range.
