A stunning second half strike from Adam Reid secured all three points for Crawley Green as they triumphed 2-1 at Amersham Town in Molten Spartan SML Division One on Saturday.

Both sides struggled to make any impact in a scrappy opening, Reid seeing his effort go wide on nine minutes and Ross Broadway replying with a header for the hosts.

Reid headed Jamie Warne’s corner over after half an hour and Warne then had an effort blocked as the score was goalless at the break.

The game improved in the second half and Amersham sub Ricky Dash could have broken the deadlock three minutes in but screwed wide.

Reid put another effort over and curled wide after Lui Sarrington and Chris Gibson had combined.

Crawley continued to push as keeper James Weatherill denied Chris Gibson 10 minutes in, denied Rob Newman twice and saved from a Jamie Warne corner.

But the Maroons took the lead on 68 minutes when Henry Mungwira turned home Warne’s cross following Craig Savage’s quick throw.

Their lead lasted just two minutes though when Nicky Nolan conceded a penalty and, although Dean Bull managed to block Martin Griggs’ spot-kick, the rebound fell kindly for Griggs to score.

Crawley fought their way back into the game and retook the lead on 74 minutes when, after good work from Gibson, Reid fired in off the right hand post from 20 yards as Green proceeded to run the clock down.

On Wednesday Crawley entertain Wodson Park.
