Dunstable Town produced an underwhelming display as they lost 2-0 at home to Paulton Rovers on Saturday.

The hosts gave an immediate debut to new signing Dave Moli, a former Luton Town youngster, who has been with both Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before his release from Molineux at the end of last season.

He almost had a dream start too, skipping past Rovers keeper Kyle Philips only to see his chance go wide.

Paulton then came close too when Darren Jefferies saw his header hit the top of the crossbar.

Goalscoring opportunities were few and far between for the hosts as Shane Blackett flashed a header off target, but the deadlock was broken by Paulton on 25 minutes when Brandon Barnes fed Mitchell Page to score.

Dunstable tried to find a way back into the game as Scott Davies’ effort was deflected behind for a corner, while Chris Marsh replaced Tony Burnett.

Chances came and went for both sides in the second period as Scott Wilson was close twice for Rovers, while Dunstable skipper Ben Herd sent over two dangerous crosses, Blackett had an attempt cleared off the line and substitute Jamale McKenzie-Lowe headed inches wide.

Davies was also off target from a set-piece, but Rovers soon had the crucial second goal with six minutes to go as a corner found Barnes in space and although his first shot struck the foot of the post, he converted the rebound.

The result further extended Dunstable’s misery at home in the league as they have now not won since September 20, with one draw and seven defeats in their last eight matches.
