The Hatters now need just three more wins to secure the title, and a return to the Football League after a five-year absence.

It was, who else, but Andre Gray who scored the winner five minutes from time and the Hatters’ talisman is once again tied with Lee Gregory in the battle to be the Conference Premier’s leading marksman.

Both have 27 goals apiece for the season but it is Gregory that heads the market. The Halifax striker is the 4/6 favourite with the Shaymen challenging for a top five spot; Gray eased out to 11/10 with Hatters manager John Still likely to ring the changes should the title be secured with games in hand.

Are we getting a little ahead of ourselves? The title still needs winning and after taking more fans to Dartford than the home side themselves Luton now have three games at Kenilworth Road inside a week to secure top spot in the Conference Premier; 1/500 with BetVictor to be champions.

Luton are 4/11 favourites for the arrival of Aldershot at the weekend, the Shots 13/2 and the draw 18/5 however it is very hard to see anything but a home win, with the visitors without a win in their last six away from the Recreation Ground.

The 3-0 correct score looks a fair price at 10/1, with Gray taken to fire the side to victory.

The scorecast of Gray scoring the opener in a Hatters’ 3-0 win offering further value at 25/1 with BetVictor.

The Hatters know that if they win their next three matches then they have secured the title and Luton are 9/4 with BetVictor to beat the trio of Aldershot, Tamworth and high-flying Braintree all inside seven days at Kenilworth Road.

Cambridge remain 9/4 favourites to follow Luton into the Football League, with Grimsby Town their nearest dangers at 5/2 to come through the play-offs route with both sides in good heart, recording 1-0 wins midweek at both Macclesfield and Wrexham respectively.
