Luton Town have confirmed that midfield duo Jacob Butterfield and Callum McManaman have been released by after their contracts expired.

Butterfield, 30, signed for the Hatters under former manager Graeme Jones following his release by Derby County last summer and made 17 appearances in total, scoring one goal. at former club Barnsley back in August.

He played once under returning boss Nathan Jones, in the crucial 1-0 win at Swansea when the season resumed following lockdown.

McManaman also joined last summer, becoming Graeme Jones' first signing since he took over at Kenilworth Road.

The 29-year-old scored four goals in 26 appearances, with three of his strikes being late equalisers, including a vital effort during the 1-1 draw with Preston North End last month.

Speaking about their departures, boss Nathan Jones said: "Jacob and Callum have both been consummate professionals and I can only thank them for that.

“Although they obviously played most of their football for the club before I came in, both made important contributions after the restart and were fantastic to have around the group, pushing and encouraging those that were starting.

“They were a big part of the team being able to achieve what we did, because the environment was first class.

"Both are great lads and they were part of something really memorable. I want to thank them and wish them well for the future.”
