On Gray’s exit, Town managing director Gary Sweet said: “It is always a shame to see a successful and popular player depart Kenilworth Road, but Andre’s development has been rapid since joining us and it’s good for us to show that we won’t hold players back if the timing and deal is right for all parties.

“I can also confirm that the income received will be re-invested into players and training facilities over the next two years to ensure this event strengthens us.”

Meanwhile about the striker, who scored 57 goals in 111 appearances after joining from Hinckley United for £30,000 in March 2012, Town manager John Still said: “We are naturally disappointed to lose Andre but it goes without saying that we wish him well at Brentford.

“With only a year left on his contract, it was either a case of him extending with us or him moving on.

“It is a great move for him and I am confident that he will go on and enjoy huge success at Griffin Park.”

Bees boss Mark Warburton told the Brentford official website: “We are always looking to add value to the playing squad with individuals who can make significant contributions both on and off the pitch and who have excellent development potential.

“Andre is a player we have tracked and who has just completed an outstanding season in helping Luton achieve promotion and a return to the Football league.

“Andre has tremendous pace, good movement and a clear eye for goal.
