Although Gray didn’t find the net in Hatters’ 1-0 win over Hyde, his tally of 30 goals wasn’t bettered by FC Halifax Town’s lethal forward Lee Gregory.

The Shaymen frontman remained on 29 strikes after he was an unused sub during his side’s 1-1 draw with Kidderminster Harriers.

A delighted Gray said: “I’ve got the golden boot and as soon as we won the league, that was the aim, I’ve achieved that now, so I’m buzzing.

“If someone had asked me if I’d get the golden boot and we’d be champions, I wouldn’t have believed them.”

Gray played on for the final games of the campaign despite not being at full fitness, while the season didn’t begin as he had anticipated either, as it took the former Hinckley striker nine games to eventually open his account.
