Hatters boss knows home comforts are required

Luton have taken just one point from a possible nine, conceding last-minute goals in all three of their League Two matches at Kenilworth Road so far.

On their home record so far, Still said: “For a club like Luton in Luton’s position, our results at home haven’t been good enough.

“Forget whether we start slow, in all football clubs you want to win at home. For us, the results for us aren’t good enough and we don’t want to get into the performances are all right bit as I’m comfortable with that bit, but I’m not comfortable with the fact that we’re not winning.

“Will we win at home? Of course we will. Will we go on a run? Of course we will. Is there a reason we’re not winning them? Not at all. There’s no reason on earth we’re not winning at home, no real reason we would lose an away game, where we go we can play confidently.”

Although Luton’s away form has only been marginally better, with four points garnered on the road so far, Still felt his side hadn’t been as good during the early part of the campaign in his time as manager.

He continued: “At this stage of the season we’re playing better than we have in the other two seasons, for me.

“Sometimes it takes a bit longer, but we’re playing better earlier. I changed something pre-season hoped might make us a touch sharper earlier, I think it has but we’re making mistakes to concede goals.

“Only a couple of teams have scored more than us,so it’s working for us as we are creating and scoring goals.”

On the test that the Stags, who have started the season in fine form themselves, sitting in the play-off places, will bring, Still added: “I think every year the league gets stronger. You can’t afford to be off the pace for too long, it applies to everybody.

“I go into a season knowing we might not quite be as sharp as sometimes because of how we train, that’s my way, that’s how it’s always been.

“It was good enough to take us however many points we were behind Cambridge to win the league by however many points.

“It was good enough to take us from 13th, 14th or 15th last year to top of the league, so I believe that for us it is the right thing.

“I think we’re playing well enough to win football matches as opposed to not playing very well. The league is tough, they’ll supply us with a great test, be a difficult opponent, but I know when we’re good we’re good.

“Did I expect us to have not come flying out of traps? Yes I did, I didn’t think we would.

“Did I expect us to be playing better by now? Not really as I think we’re playing better. Did I expect us to have more points than this? Yes I did. A lot more points? I’m not really sure about that, I’d have thought we would have had three, four, five more points.

“Are we capable of going out and beating whoever we play? One hundred per cent. So let’s hope we can perform how know now we can perform but defend how we know we can defend.”
