Hatters drawn at home to non-league opposition in FA Cup first round

Rovers and United need a replay to determine who travels to Kenilworth Road

Luton have been drawn at home to non-league opposition in the FA Cup first round, as they will host either Forest Green Rovers or Chesham United next month.

The two sides played out a goalless draw on Saturday, meaning a replay is needed to decide who goes to Kenilworth Road on the weekend of November 7, that taking place at Rovers’ New Lawn ground tomorrow night. Town hosted Forest Green at the same stage of the competition last term, as they squandered a 3-0 lead against the side then managed by Robbie Savage, as the visitors drew level at 3-3, only for Gideon Kodua to win it in injury time.

Former Leicester and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Savage recently left his position in charge to join League One side Peterborough United, with a coaching team of Jonathan Gould, Josh Bowen and Yan Klukowski taking over the team who sit 16th in the National League, beaten 4-2 at home by Hartlepool United in their last home match.

Meanwhile, Chesham, who are jointly managed by James Duncan and Michael Murray, ply their trade in National League South, where they are 19th, with three wins, one draw and seven defeats to their name. Luton have actually played the Generals twice in the FA Cup before, that coming back in 1888 when they were held to a 3-3 draw in the second qualifying round, John Lomax with two and Locke Narburgh scoring. The Hatters then won the second match rather convincingly, 10-2, Lionel Thring and George Deacon bagging hat-tricks, Narburgh and Lomax on target again with doubles.
