The hosts led through Alex Gilbey’s unbelievable attempt from range, before Town levelled in the second period through Jordan Clark, only to then concede a penalty that Aaron Collins netted. To find out how the Hatters rated on the day, see below.

1. James Shea: 6
Experienced stopper started a third successive league game and was having a fairly quiet afternoon, demonstrating real calmness to come out of his box and control on his chest rather than head away when under pressure from the MK Dons' attackers. That was until Gilbey somehow picked out the top corner from 35 yards, as he had very little chance of keeping out the midfielder's attempt that flew into the top corner, in what was a one-in-a-million strike. Was the same after the break, until Luton drew level, which saw Dons take the ascendancy for a few minutes, and make the most of it, winning a penalty that was tucked into the side-netting by Collins for the winner. 2. Hakeem Odoffin (STAR MAN): 7
Stayed in the right back role due to Ashby picking up an injury just before the game and was dominant in the air against his opponents, winning all five of the aerial duels that came his way, while was very rarely beaten on the ground as well. Ventured forward with the ball when the chance arose, but as a centre half, unlikely to provide an option on the overlap to Mendel, as when he did get the chance to cross, couldn't pick out a team-mate inside the area. Did try his luck once late on, slicing a shot well wide from range as Town's inability to keep a clean sheet is proving to be a real issue, just the one in the league so far. Photo: Jane Russell

3. Mads Andersen: 6.5
Part of a Luton defence that was decent enough as they restricted their hosts to very few clear-cut opportunities, conceding an unbelievable long-range strike into the top corner, plus a penalty, Shea barely tested otherwise. Up against a physical opposition who went long more often than not, the centre half stood his ground well, ensuring Town were able to keep the ball away from their box for long periods, also taking up some good positions to cut out the Dons' dangerous crosses when they did send it into the area. One v one defending was good when the visitors committed more men forward, before taken off as part of a triple change with the Hatters attempting to find a late leveller. Photo: Jane Russell

4. George Johnston: 5.5
Had an early chance to open the scoring when left totally unmarked from Mendel’s cross, but wasn’t able to get a touch on his delivery. With Town 1-0 down, sent a good raking pass which released Mendel, only for his team-mate to sprint into a good position, although fail to shoot. Despite winning almost all of his headers, and intent on clearing his lines since joining, for reasons unknown, opted to take Dennis's long ball on his chest, having his pocket picked by Collins. Then slid in unnecessarily when the forward was running the ball out of play, conceding a totally needless penalty that allowed the hosts to win it. Tried to make amends with a late shot, seeing it blocked away. Photo: Jane Russell
