In-form Town forward makes himself available for Bermuda
Wells could play in Gold Cup qualifiers
Luton striker Nahki Wells has made himself available to play for Bermuda in their Concacaf Nations League fixtures against Guadeloupe, St Lucia and Barbados over the upcoming months.
The 36-year-old, who has won 30 caps for his country so far, scoring 20 goals, with his last coming in the 3-0 World Cup qualifying loss against Trinidad in October 2025, had chosen to miss the last five internationals. With Michael Findlay leaving his position as head coach in March, Wells has had positive discussions with his replacement John Barry Nusum and is now in the frame to represent his country once more when they begin their Nations League B group B campaign against Guadeloupe on Friday, September 25 before taking on St Lucia three days later.
The Gombey Warriors then play Barbados on October 2 before closing out the first international window of the season against the same opposition again on October 5. The group winners will advance directly to the Gold Cup and also gain promotion to League A, while the two best runners-up from the four League B groups will go through to the Gold Cup preliminary round, with the fourth-place finisher relegated to League C.

Speaking to the Royal Gazette, Wells said: “I had a conversation with JB and I told him I haven’t closed that door and I still have interest in representing my country and putting that Bermuda jersey on again. I just have to see how the next few weeks pan out and what’s going on with my team and make decisions with regard to that.
"But it’s very likely that I will play in some capacity over these set of fixtures that are coming up in September, October and November, so we’ll see. It will be really great to represent the country on home soil again; go back out there and still show the country what I can do and play my part.”
Wells will be hoping that if selected, he can carry on the form he is showing for the Hatters so far this term, scoring twice in his opening three appearances, having netted in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win at Gillingham and also from the penalty spot as Town drew 2-2 with Notts County at the weekend. On his start to the campaign, the striker continued: “I’m happy to be contributing each game.
"I’m disappointed that we couldn’t get the win, but it was great to be back home to open our season at Kenilworth Road against a newly promoted side that came to leave with something and they thoroughly deserved a point out of the game. We were not at our best, but to leave with something is something we can take huge encouragement from and for myself happy to contribute again.”
Having managed 10 goals in total last season and seven assists, but only on target five times in league matches, Wells is looking for a far better tally this term, stating: “This year it’s about making sure that I can improve my stats, goals and contribution per game. Not just not having good performances, but having the statistics to help back up those performances that I have been having, and I’m sure it’s going to be a great year.”
Wells and Luton are now gearing up to face Premier League giants Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup second round on Thursday evening. With the Blues, under new management in ex-Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso this term, and beginning their top flight campaign by beating Fulham 3-2 on Monday night, Wells added: “It’s a competition that we want to try and progress, and we will go there and give it our all and try to leave entering the next stage. They need to win and it’s a free hit for us, so I’m looking forward to it.”
