Luton winger faces a lengthy rehab after suffering 'bad' hamstring injury

Wilshere left frustrated as attacker will be out for some time

Luton winger Shayden Morris faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up what manager Jack Wilshere deemed a ‘bad’ hamstring injury in training.

The 24-year-old, who moved to Kenilworth Road from Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen last season, scoring seven goals in 39 appearances, had featured heavily in pre-season for the Hatters and had set his sights on really hitting the ground running in League One this term. Morris looked lively when coming on in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win at League Two Gillingham, but then wasn’t included in the squad that travelled to Reading and picked up a 4-3 opening day success last weekend.

Explaining just why that was, Wilshere said: “Shayden Morris is injured. Unfortunately he picked up quite a bad hamstring injury, which is frustrating, because I felt he needed a really good pre-season and he did have a really good pre-season. Then two days before the first game he picked up a hamstring injury which will keep him out for some time.”

With Morris being such an explosive speed merchant, then getting him back to a position where he can play again will clearly be a delicate operation, as Wilshere continued: “I’ve no doubt he’ll come back from it and he’ll come back stronger, but probably when you have a player like that who’s so quick and everything he does is a fast action, it’s hard to manage.

"That one really hurt me as always, always, we have to look in our mirror and what happened and we did, it’s just one of those things. A quick player, frustrating, but we’ll support him and hopefully he won’t take as long and will be back quicker than we think.”

The one positive thing for Morris is that he won’t require an operation to mend the issue, as Wilshere added: “No, it’s not that bad, but it will be a long rehab for him.”
