The Hatters had seen off Leeds United, Leicester City, Ipswich Town, Blackpool and Norwich City to reach Wembley, but in front of 100,000 people, were 2-0 down inside 15 minutes. Dave Pacey pulled one back just after the hour mark, but Town couldn't find an equaliser in what remains the only time they have reached this stage of the competition.
